Morador do Jardim Botânico desde 1964, pequeno empresário, fundador e ex-presidente da Associação dos Moradores e Amigos do Jardim Botânico, Amajb, Juvenal Ferreira (foto) aponta como prioridades atuais do bairro o reforço na área de segurança e a qualificação de pessoas "para inclusão social, através de cursos profissionalizantes". Juvenal - que atualmente se encontra em campanha política, apoiando candidatos a prefeito e vereador - acha que falta mobilização e "alguém que tome a frente" das ações comunitárias. Segundo ele, no tempo em que a AMAJB foi atuante a comunidade conseguiu trazer para o bairro o posto de policiamento da Brigada Militar (rua Felizardo Furtado), a agência franqueada dos Correios e Telégrafos (barão do Amazonas), entre outras conquistas. "Hoje está faltando mobilização", afirma, em uma crítica aberta à atual direção da entidade.
O ex-presidente - que hoje não reside no Jardim Botânico, e tem aqui apoiadores e antipatizantes - diz que voltará a morar no bairro brevemente e que reassumirá a associação, "ou então fundarei uma nova". Isso, no entanto, acontecerá somente depois da campanha eleitoral, diz: "Não quero misturar as coisas".
"Sem uma associação de moradores forte, não se consegue nada. O Jardim Botânico sempre foi um bairro de transição entre Petrópolis e o Partenon, mas isso mudou, e hoje não é mais, está se modificando totalmente", afirma.
